Comments from Gabriel Sunday Morning, Brantford Canada: A call was received from Gabriel earlier today to inform me that when he went outside this morning to retrieve something from the van he discovered it had been stolen. It had been parked at the hotel in what, Gabriel had been assured, was a "safe" place. Along with the van itself, much of what Patricia and Gabriel had brought along for the trip has been lost with little hope for recovery, according to the police. All of Patricia's nicer clothes, as well as a number of personal possessions and Gabriel's bicycle are among the purloined items. Looking at the "half-full" side of the glass, fortunately many of the expensive items necessary for the trip had been brought inside the room including Patricia's bicycle and riding gear as well as the digital camera and laptop computer. Disappointed and upset but undaunted, the oddesy continues. Patricia on her bike and Gabriel hitching a ride in one of the America By Bicycle SAG vans. True determination is not easily sidetracked! Their intention is to proceed on to today's appointed destination, Niagra Falls, NY, and rent a vehicle there for use on the remainder of the trip. Monday will be a rest day in Niagra Falls and the balance of the trip has but seven days remaining, so not finishing is not even a consideration. More to follow as details come in... An update on the stolen van issue..... It now appears that instead of renting a vehicle for the remaining week of the trip, Gabriel has decided he will try to bicycle the rest of the way (545 miles) alongside of Patricia. He will not be bound by any of the constraints that Patricia has imposed upon herself, such as not getting a lift from the SAG wagon when exhausted, but still, it will certainly be an interesting attempt. So now we all must cheer on Gabriel as well. I'm sure he will do well. But remember Gabe, that's 2,877,600 pedal pushes...
