| June 26th, Day 6 | John Day Oregon to Baker City Oregon | Mileage Today = 81 Total Mileage = 468 |
About Baker City Oregon Baker City is a community steeped with tradition and history. Granted its city charter in 1870, Baker City was once considered to be the premier social center along the Oregon Trail and once boasted the largest population of any city in the state of Oregon. During an era when gold mining was the norm, Baker City was born as a support center for the surrounding gold mining towns. With such towns as Auburn, Sumpter, and Sparta close by, Baker City soon became the focal point of activity. These days, Baker City has quieted down a bit. Gone are the bawdy houses and dancing girls, the wild saloons and even wilder people. One thing that hasn't changed, however, is the community's commitment to its past and future. Today, Baker City is rich with the flavor of the 1890s with its nationally recognized historic shopping district, museums and attractions.

Postcards From The Edge... Hello everyone, this is Gabriel, Patricia is resting. I am having a very tough time with this computer but I am getting it slowly!! Sorry for the late photos, I had to snail mail some on those days when my computer crashed . But I found a great guy in John Day who got me running again! Patricia had another very tough day 80.8 miles of a lot of mountains. She is a real trooper. Some are already using the sag wagon. On these long & hot days I will stay especially close to her. I brought spray bottles, yogurt, bagels, soymilk & crackers. It fuels her like premium gasoline!!! The spray of water really cools her engine on those hot days. Toady's elevation was 3,446 ft. The hills were UN-real!!!! The beauty was also UN-real. We were greeted by a very kind news writer as soon as we hit town by the name of Lisa Britton from the Baker City Hearld of Baker city. Great interview, almost 2 hrs. She was really amazed at Patricia. If anyone wants a copy you can call the paper next week at 1 541 523 3673. We almost missed out on dinner. There was a speed race of bikes here when we arrived right down town. We only watched for a few minutes as Patricia was hurting!! I hope everyone is supporting with pledges as you really have no idea what she is doing unless you can see it live.
The town people can not believe anyone would do this with out a motor !!! PS cell phones are also lost much of the days. Evenings or mornings are the best time to try leave a message & we will get back as soon as possible. Take care. LOL Gabriel & Patricia Special thanks to our pal Tom Locashio for all his help guiding me through this computer mess & producing this website.
