Mountain Home sets between the Danskin and Owyhee Mountains, approximately 40 miles southeast of Boise (see map). We currently have a population over 11,000 and growing daily due to new industry and "our" Air Force base. You see, Mountain Home has strong ties to the base and their issues are "our" issues. There are many retired military members that live in our community, which also strengthens the ties. Annually, we have our Mountain Home Air Force Appreciation Day. Which we can proudly boast to being one of the largest parades in Idaho.

These long downhills are GREAT, but the going up is rough.

Comments from Patricia

Today was a short riding day for us--51 miles. It was a good chance to stretch out and just keep riding as fast as I could. I rode to the first SAG stop--23 miles--without stopping.

That's quite a long stretch for me, but I did it and for a very specific reason--we were riding on I-84 today most of the day so I find someone who will ride a little slower and just tag right after them as it's no fun to be stuck on the interstate by yourself with a flat tire. And guess what--had only 2 flats on the 1st and 2nd days out, but today was my first day on the interstate and I had two for one day. Luckily a fellow rider came along and changed my tire and as he pumped it up, the stem blew out so had to change it again. This time it was his spare tube.

As he came back to my bike, he stepped on a rock that rolled and he went tumbling head over heels. I had pulled into a burned spot off the road so I wouldn't be in the weeds so he was covered from head to foot in ashes and burned stuff. I offered to wash his clothes tonight but he said he was OK. Chivalry still exists!!!!

This afternoon we had a tire clinic from 2:30 to 4:00 so I learned a lot and did get a rear tire changed "with help".

The weather is getting windy and stormy so maybe there will be fireworks like yesterday.

My biggest complaint today is that I think I broke my little toe last night--I hit it on a nightstand that was kind of sticking out in the walkway. Yesterday I did get new pedals so I could wear Susie Ceriale's shoes and they are just a little big so thank goodness there is a little extra room for a black and blue swollen toe!  I won't be wearing any pretty shoes for a bit but thank goodness I can still pedal and I am!!

Mountain Home is a little town of about 11,000--well I guess maybe that's pretty big for around here.  The terrain today was very barren--we left early this am to beat the heat because  everyone was here by noon today. There is a gorgeous rock swimming pool here at the motel so Gabriel got lots of pictures to give us ideas for ours when we get home (waterfall--not swimming pool). Bye for now--tomorrow is almost a century (98) so have to be in bed by 8:30.

Love, Patricia and Gabriel.
