We are so proud of you!!!

Keep up the great work. We are pulling for you. I am sure you rather we
were peddling some. See if you can't lose some weight for me. I am with
you Psybernetically (?) and all I have managed to do is to get hungry
and eat more. Stop to smell the roses or whatever other flowers you
find along the way. We are with you and love you.

Keep up the great work.

Hello, Patricia and Gabriel!

Past the Continental Divide -- amazing. It's beautiful country, isn't it?  Land will be getting much flatter now, but the weather will be hotter, too, and more humid. Take care and be careful!  On day 23, you'll get to see the Famous Wall Drug!!   And you'll start seeing signs advertising it from about day18!!  Have fun!   (Great homemade donuts!)

Mom sends her greetings and congratulations, too, and says she thinks you're a phenomenon!   I agree!  I've already sent my pledge in, because I have no doubt that you'll cover all 3,622 miles to Portsmouth!  (By the way, Portsmouth is a lovely water-front town that you'll enjoy!)

I wish I could be in New Hampshire to greet you, but Mom's condition keeps me close to home these days. Right now, she's battling pneumonia and not feeling very well.  But she's excited for you and asks every night about your progress.

You go girl!!  Love, Betty

Hi, from Arizona,!!

Have been following with interest your bike ride.  I can't believe how many miles you have made in one day!!! Keep it up with your 9 good toes.

I also have been very impressed with the wonderful pictures you've found, taken and put on your website.  Someone is a genius!  Or are there "geni". as in plural ??

You seem to be having great weather.  We really need rain here.  They cancelled our town fireworks because of the extreme drought.   Drink plenty of water!  Love, Ed

[editors note] The below is from an email originally sent to a local TV station/website, KIDK in Twin Falls, WY and copied to Patricia

I read your article regarding Patricia Starr the 67 year old woman bicycling across the country, it is really an inspiration for people of all ages, I am fortunate enough to know Patricia personally and professionally, we have played together for nearly 20 years, and like her husband Gabriel said in your article "She is the most wonderful woman I've ever met." she really is an outstanding person! I met Gabriel prior to their marriage and since then we have become very good friends.

I would like to compliment and congratulate you on your article reporting, it just shows that in America we still have values and above of all, that we welcome anyone with open arms as your town did with these two "strangers", I had the opportunity to talk to Patricia and Gabe before leaving and I know they left a little piece of their heart in your town!

Sincerely

Dear Patricia and Gabriel

You had me worried for a while. I knew it was going to be a very long
ride and when your page appeared empty for 2 days, I feared for your
well being.

I just got on the page where I read one of the limericks the other
riders wrote about Patricia and her age. Even they in a subtle way
think you look great for 67. They don't believe it. Anyhow the photo of
you  at the piano brings back very fond memories of listening to you
play. I also recall the Lesson Plan you created by mail. Our mutual
friend, Steve Martin's father and your Organist friend, Shea.. I got a
kick out of reading the poems (Dangerous Dan McGrew and the cremation
of Sam McGee)

Can't tell you how proud we are of your accomplishments. Pray for your
lazy friends like my self that are just loafing while you toil.

Our band concert went well today after a wrong start. The people loved
the favorite tunes. We play again tomorrow. We miss you in the trombone
section. Take care and continue to have fun all of your life.

Hello Patricia and Gabriel!

I just got home from Ukraine and had to check on the progress of my
favorite piano teacher and her favorite cheer leader.  It looks like
you are both doing a grand job.  We really enjoyed your photos Gabriel
and we're rooting for you all the way Patricia.  Bob's operations were
successful and he can see a whole lot better.

Keep pedaling.

Hi everyone:

Please let Patricia know that Chuck Lawrence from the Prime Time Band
called today and asked me specifically to convey the heartiest best
wishes and congratulations to Patricia for the tremendous showing she
has made. The entire band is paying attention and whenever any of us
hears from or about the trip, we convey it to the rest of the band.

If you will remember at our age, few of us want to waste any time
picking up new fandangled things like computers, email and what so.
Many are waiting anxiously for their next life to learn about these new
things. No one wants to leave this earth with a job left unfinished,
so better not to start.

Chuck wants her to know that we all miss and love her and wish her
continued great riding.

Keep up the great work. Our kindest thoughts are with you and all your
new found friends.

Silvio

Hi, Patricia and Gabriel,

It's really too bad that you don't have a free day in the Dells.  It's a great place to relax.  Enjoy the Wisconsin scenery.  Our hearts are with you.

Kathy and Jim

Dear Gabriel and Patricia:

I t is Sunday morning in Santa Barbara. Mary and I are going out to buy tires for the car in a few minutes. I just got caught up by reading several of the days of your trip. I meant to inform you earlier but I overlooked doing so. The Nose cone you witnessed on July 10, 2004 day 20 is probably a VOR transmitting station. They are used by aircraft to tune into and use for navigational purposes. They are usually seen sitting in the middle of large fields looking like a nose cone.

I am going to copy this to my friends in Rochester New York so they can prepare for your arrival.

You are scheduled to spend the night in Henrietta, a town I am familiar with. It is just south of Rochester NY. Frank Gannett who was a prohibitionist donated a sum of money for the purpose of building a facility in Henrietta. The teen age kids could come and enjoy all the features of a night club except the booze. I once met Frank Gannett in the club and photographed him with the publisher of the local newspaper. Frank Gannett was the founder of Gannett newspapers who are now the publishers of USA today.

I am copying this to Leonard Pettiti who has indicated his willingness to notify the local press. Leonard I am enclosing the location of the web site which is following the trip. Please go to it so you know what is happening. You can use the page to find out what is happening each day. Let me know if you have any problem. http://www.sbstarrsview.com/newpage78.htm

Gabriel, give our very best to Patricia. We all love her and are with her with our prayers and other support. She is an inspiration to us all. Patricia, my daughter Cammilla reminded me that you taught her Piano when we were neighbors. It reminded me of some of the recitals in your home. I will copy her and Todd, another one of your students. I can still hear him playing "The entertainer"

Put the following web site in your browser and it will take you to one page, from which you can go forward or backward to read about the trip

GOOD WORK, PATRICIA STARR!
And good work Gabriel!  What a team!
Dear Patricia and Gabriel,
How maddening..you have both worked so hard...what a good team..and I'm sure have met many wonderful good people along the way...but having the Van stolen was sooooo awful.  (What's the symbol for "bad words" on the computor)...Anyway , Stan and I are so sorry this happened to you, but as I said to Patricia when I first heard your voice I was frozen with a "what happened" feeling and am glad that you are both physically fine.  Don't lose your cool and kick something...Smile..just my sense of humor!!
Love you much and will be thinking and praying for you each day. Big hugs to you both. Lois and Stan

Hi Patricia & Gabe!

What a surprise this morning to read in the NewsPress about your journey across the country on a bike!  I don't know why I hadn't heard about it before, but am happy that I can now encourage you in your wonderful efforts to raise funds for such a worthy cause.

Keep up the great work, even after some awful person stole your van -- you'll get through this just fine.  I have faith in you both!

Your friend,

Jolinda Newton Pizzirani

(whose father built your house on Newton Road)

PS:  We have established our own publishing company here in Summerland, called Journey Publications.  Maybe when you're finished with this great trip, you can write a book about it and we can help you get it published!  Visit www.journeypublications.com.
